Job Title – UAS System Operator

Reporting directly to the Flight Operations Manager, the UAS Systems Operator is responsible for managing various aircraft systems in preparation for, and during, ground activities, flight trials and demonstrations.

Tasks and Accountabilities

As part of this role you will be responsible for undertaking activities such as: –

  • Train and deploy as part of a Mission Crew of up to 5 people – responsible for managing various UAS systems and ensuring safety protocols are applied as defined.
  • Candidates must have a practical scientific/engineering background or experience flying large UAS with an ability to work as a team member as well as occasionally unsupervised on own initiative, have good analytical skills, with the ability to identify a problem, interact with the right stakeholders and provide a solution.
  • Support planning, execution and reporting of ground activities, flight trials and demonstrations.
  • Contribute to the generation of test plans including organising and presenting at flight test readiness review boards.
  • Work with Engineers to ensure flight readiness.
  • Feedback to the systems engineering team lessons learnt or opportunities for improvement of the system.
  • Support Engineers with Assembly, Integration and Test of PHASA 35 on flight trial.

Required Skills

Essential:

  • Knowledge and understanding of technologies relevant to Unmanned air systems (UAS).
  • Ability to mentor and train other users.
  • A driven, self-motivated, committed individual with a passion for innovation.
  • Ability to work flexibly as part of a team, with a positive and proactive attitude
  • Careful and organised approach to tasks.
  • Reliable in respect of quality and timeliness of deliverable items.
  • Evidence of taking ownership of problems/high level requirements.
  • Understanding of engineering test plans and how to conduct them.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel and be deployed on projects internationally.

Desirable:

  • Previous flight experience with documented pilot logbook.
  • Able to coach and mentor new team members.
  • Previous experience in at least 1 of these areas:
    • CAA sUAS certificate/GVC.
    • FAA sUAS Part 107 License.
    • BMFA or AMA R/C or Quad flying with documented pilot logbook.
  • Understanding of flight planning, meteorology, system preparation and airspace management.
  • Working within a development/test environment.

Principal Terms and Conditions

  • Post – Permanent.
  • Salary – to be agreed depending on experience.
  • Pension – 10% contribution from the company included.
  • Leave – 25 days plus bank holidays.
  • Working time 37.5 hrs per week.
  • Location – Alton, Hampshire, UK.
