Job Title – IT Technician

Join our innovative aerospace design and manufacturing company as an IT Support Specialist at our main site in Alton. As a subsidiary of BAE Systems, we adhere to high operational standards while working on projects with significant commercial value. In this role, you’ll independently provide first and second line technical support, maintain hardware and software systems, and ensure smooth IT operations within a fast-paced environment. Occasional travel to our secondary site in Oxford may be required.

Key Responsibilities:

As part of this role you will be responsible for undertaking activities such as: –

  • Technical Support and Problem Solving: Provide first and second line support for hardware, software, and network issues, working independently to diagnose and resolve problems, and escalating complex issues when necessary. Identify opportunities for continual improvement.
  • System and Network Maintenance: Install, configure, and maintain end-user computers, server infrastructure, printers, and peripherals. Support the monitoring and maintenance of LAN and Wi-Fi networks to ensure consistent connectivity and security.
  • Security and Compliance: Adhere to IT security protocols, manage data backups, and ensure compliance with company policies and cybersecurity best practices. Apply security patches and resolve vulnerabilities as required.
  • Software and Asset Management: Install and update business software, manage asset inventory, configure devices for deployment, facilitate replacements, and handle user migrations.
  • User Support and Training: Assist new starters with IT setup, communicate IT policies, manage user access, and provide guidance on systems and software use, including audiovisual support for meetings.
  • Documentation and Vendor Coordination: Maintain accurate records of hardware inventory, software licences, and IT activities. Coordinate with external vendors for equipment procurement and repairs.
  • Project Participation: Support IT projects such as system upgrades and new technology implementations, championing best practices in the workplace.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education: Minimum Level 3 qualification in IT, Computer Science, or related field (e.g., A-Levels, BTEC National Diploma); HNC/HND advantageous.
  • Experience: At least 2 years in IT support or related roles.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems (Windows 10) and Microsoft Office Suite, Linux-based system knowledge beneficial.
    • Familiarity with networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS) and troubleshooting.
    • Ability to troubleshoot and repair hardware (desktops, laptops, printers).
    • Experience with asset management, deployment processes, and technical support.
    • Knowledge of ITIL frameworks and experience applying them.
    • Awareness of cybersecurity best practices and data protection.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to work independently, proactively manage tasks, and take initiative.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent communication skills, able to convey technical information clearly to non-technical staff.
    • Organisational skills to prioritise tasks and handle multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
  • Certifications (Optional): ITIL Foundation, CompTIA A+, Network+, or similar.

Principal Terms and Conditions

  • Post – Permanent.
  • Salary – to be agreed depending on experience.
  • Pension – 10% contribution from the company included.
  • Leave – 25 days plus bank holidays.
  • Working time 37.5 hrs per week.
  • Location – Alton, Hampshire, UK.
